No need of an external application to edit files or convert formats, it's quite simple.
How to save messages from Gmail in Google Docs:
1. Go to page Gmail Labs and find the item "Create a document" check "Enable", once done, the end of the same page, remember to press the "Save changes".
2. Open the email on Gmail which you want to save/convert , click the "More" and select "Create Document" . This will take you to Google Docs so you can make the changes you want and download in various formats including PDF, RTF, Word, Plain Text or HTM.Note: Email attachments will not be copied to Google Docs, but the (rich)formatting will be preserved.
